The moment I realized I was a hypocrite

Hypocrite.

It's a word thrown around freely in everyday conversation. I use the word quite often, and even more so lately, because this past summer I realized I was being just that.

According to Merriam-Webster, a hypocrite is "a person who claims or pretends to have certain beliefs about what is right but who behaves in a way that disagrees with those beliefs."

I realize most of us are hypocrites in many aspects of our life, whether or not it's intentional. However, I'm a firm believer in women going after what they want. I believe in feminism, and I believe the only way for women and men to be equal is for women to stop being afraid and just go after whatever it is they want to accomplish. Not too long ago I realized I was hypocritical of those beliefs.

I've publicly expressed my beliefs about women's equality and women achieving their dreams. For some time, I've also had a dream of running my own business and working for myself. Sadly, I kept those dreams to myself and in my thoughts. I would often daydream about running my own business and how empowering it would feel. After reading countless articles about different women taking the leap, I hesitated not a moment longer.

I literally sat at my computer, and it felt like a lightbulb went off. It wasn't a lightbulb saying, "Hey, I can do what these women are doing." It was more of a lightbulb saying, "Hey, you're being a freaking hypocrite. These women are going after what they want, and you're just sitting back, wishing and waiting." I knew I had to take the leap. I couldn't claim to believe women should follow their dreams unless I did so myself.

In summary, I opened this business to accomplish my dream of having my own business, but even more than that, I opened this business to continue motivating women. I want to prove to women and everyone else in this world that it is possible to make your dreams come true. I'm nobody special. I have no special background or expertise. I'm just a girl with dreams, and I want to help you fulfill your own dreams.
